February 20, 1978
Page 8
saying it is something the Commission should be doing for it brought
stature to the Commission and helps the Community. Mrs. Price asked
Ms. Peck to follow through.
Ms. Peck said then that she had to speak to Jeanne Derbeck about the pro-
posed newsletter. She said that instead of the Commission publishing a
newsletter, her idea was to ask if the Commission could go to the -Tribune
and maybe a spot could be allocated in the paper every week for preserva-
tion news, etc. Ms. Derbeck, although not speaking for the Tri, felt
the policy of that newspaper was not to grant such a request of committing
space to groups. Mr. Wasielewski suggested that perhaps the Peery Sggvgr
might be more apt to do something like this.
Ms. Peck then spoke about the money that, at one time, was allocated to
do a permenent slide carousel. She said there were quite a. few slides
that were missing and that, of those we had, several we had were not very
good. Some of these slides need to be re -taken and at the next meeting
she would bring up getting technical assistance for this.
Standards and Historic Plan
Mr. Oxian then said four months ago he brought up a proposal for a
Review Board procedure which the Commission was going to pursue. He
said the proposal was given to Commission members for their opinions.
It was tentatively adopted that the Commission would go ahead and set
up an architectural Review Board, and thus far, no action has been taken,
He felt it was something the Commission should do very soon. Mr. Wasiel-
ewski said he would cover this topic in his report.
Presidential Report
Mr. Wasielewski informed the Commission that A CETA secretary position
had been approved. Ms. Peck interviewed one person last week. This
person did not take shorthand and was not hired. Mr. Wasielewski said
a person with stenography skills may be hard to find, so perhaps a tape
recorder may have to be utilized. Space has been provided in the Area
Plan office for the -new --secretary and, hopefully, eventually the Com-
mission will get more space, based on MACOG's remodeling.
Mr. Wasielewski then spoke about Committee appointments and distributed
copies of the new appointments. He said he would like the names of any
who would be willing to serve on the Plan Committee.
Further, Mr. Wasielewski distributed copies of a list of the goals he
hoped the Commission could accomplish in 1978. He then read these goals.
Mrs. Price brought up the fact that, on the committee list, the City Sur-
vey Committee was omitted. Mr Wasielewski apologized and said Hers. Price
would serve as chairperson on this committee with members Tim Eckerle,
and Al Stivers.
Ms. Derbeck questioned the completion of the City Survey and was told
that the Commission was promised $20,000 to complete it. We have re-
ceived $12,000 and were waiting for the additional $8,000.
Mr. Wasielewski then said his strongest desire for 1978 is to have very
strong and active committees. Much of the lengthy discussion could be
aired at committee meetings, and thusly, shorten the regular monthly
