December 17, 1979
Page 3
• into Edgewater Place. It will also have an educational component
9 P
for homeowners involved (appendix 5)
Mr. Oxian expressed concern that the CD application would delay
the forming of an Edgewater Historic District, and that he
would be opposed to the application if this were the case. Since
much of the work on the district has been started, it was felt
it would move at its own pace regardless of the CD application,
and that CD could be viewed as a source of funds for the district,
especially in getting information to each household in the district.
Mr. Oxian also felt the wording of the CD application implied the
possibility that St. Joseph St. would not be designated an historic
district. He was adamantly opposed to any such implication, and
he stated that Mayor Nemeth had already agreed to the St. Joseph
St. Historic District.
Mr. Oxian moved that the CD application be accepted with a letter
of clarification ( stating that the Commission does not approve of
moving any houses out of the St. Joseph St. area). Mr. Nimtz
seconded, passed subject to approval of a fifth member.
Historic Districts
is No Report
Historic Landmarks and Standards
Mr. Oxian moved that 66963 Cedar Road be declared a County landmark,
seconded by Mrs. Sporleder. The owners have given their consent.
The motion was passed. Mr. Oxian stated that he wrote to McGillem
Associates to find out if any of the homes to be designated stood
in the way of the proposed southern alternate route of U.S. 20.
None, he said, with the exception of one farmstead would be in the
of the bypass. Mr. Oxian said he read McGillem`s letter to the
County Council, and based upon this, his designation for landmark
status was approved by the Council.
Mr. Wasielewski requested, on the behalf of Bill Brown, concerning
Tippecanoe Place, that a conditional Certificate of Appropriateness
be granted for all work except the porte-cochere. Such work is
subject to the approval of the Common Council, or by its resolution.
The Building Department should be aware of the conditional status
of the building permit. Mrs. Sporleder questioned the proceedure
of granting a conditional permit and how it should be drawn up.
Mr. Wasielewski said that the conditions would be stated on the
building permit, and monitoring could be done by the staff. Mr. Oxian
moved that a conditional Certificate of Appropriateness be granted,
seconded by Mrs. Sporleder, approved subject to a fifth vote.
Legal
No Report
