September 17, 1979
Page 4
the Treasurer's Report as submitted. Next there was a vote to
approve the proposed lighting for West Washington Street. All
voted in favor. Next the motion to designate 26651 Cedar Road
a County Landmark was voted on and all voted in favor.
The discussion then reverted to 26191 Quinn Road and Mr. Nimtz
declared there must be some heirs someplace who could consent to
having this structure designated a landmark. Ms. Sporleder made
an amendment to the original motion to have this structure de-
clared a landmark, that a registered letter, return receipt re-
quested, be sent to the owner asking for a consent to this action
before it is submitted to County Council. Mr Nimtz seconded this
amendment. All voted in favor of the amendment, and all voted in
favor of the motion.
Legal
Mr. Oxian then read a letter sent to Gaylen W. Allsop, and signed
by him, Mr. F. Jay Nimtz, and John Stamper, to have Mr. Allsop
consider serving as attorney for the Commission for the remainder
of this year and thereafter. The salary for this position would
be in accordance with the time spent in service to the Commission.
A reply, would be appreciated as soon as possible. It was sent
September 11, 1979• No response to this letter has been received.
Public Relations and Community Education
Mr. Stamper then briefly discussed the Celebration of Architects'
exhibit, scheduled for October 22-28 in Century Center. He men-
tioned that the photography for the slide program was finished and
Paul Godallei is putting together the exhibit. There will be an
exhibit, slide show, tours, etc.
Ms. Sporleder informed the Commission that John Stamper had appear-
ed on Public Television, Cheannel 34, and did an excellent job on
the history and architecture of the Odd Fellows Building. It was
informative and did not delve into controversial matters.
Environmental Impact Statement
No report.
Presidential Report
There were no further remarks.
Staff Report
Mr. Stamper reported that regarding the U.S. 20 By-pass, a letter
was written to McGillem Associates, signed by him and John Oxian
which included a map showing the structures along the Southern
Route which would be in jeopardy. The letter essentially said that
the Commission wished to express its opposition to the Southern A1-
. ternate Route based on the large numberof historic houses within the
route. Mr. Stamper suggested that a similar letter be sent to the
State Highway Commission. Mr. Stamper then said.since this.has
stirred up a lot of publicity, a couple of people have talked to him
