July 16, 1979
Page 5
Environmental Impact Statement
No report.
Presidential Report
Mr. Oxian declared that there are at least 6 houses on the Auto Tour
Map that are not shown as landmarks. He will mark them on the map
and send it up to the office.
He spoke about a certificate that would be given to people whose homes,
former schoolhouses, were declared landmarks by resolution. He showed
a sample of the proclamation and the wording to be included and asked
if any Commission members recommended any changes - none was forth-
coming. Mr. Oxian then stated that he will call a committee meeting
to take final action on this issue.
Staff Report
Mr. Stamper spoke about 2 Project Proposals, copies of which had been
mailed to Commission members. In conjunction with Deloris Davisson,
one project calls for 3 carousel slide trays, one of General Intro-
duction of the History of South Bend and St. Joseph County, the second
will be on 19th c. architecture, and the third on 20th c. architecture.
The second Project Proposal was to take further photographs which were
not taken on the County Survey. Mrs. Price moved that both these pro-
jects be approved and the funding would come from the Line Item, Tech-
nical Assistance. Mr. Nimtz seconded and the motion passed.
Mr. Stamper then mentioned that he was working with Doug Rice on
nominating the Chapin House to the National Register of Historic Places.
Mr. Stamper stated that he had checked out another log house in the
County, this one at 66251 Cedar Road, and that he was going to talk
with the owners about it. Mr. Oxian saw the log house on tour of
county homes for possible future landmarks.
Mr. Oxian spoke about some other county homes which could be declared
landmarks but which had had some additions or deletions, and the owners
wanted some architectural opinion before they could be declared landmarks.
He said Mr. Stamper has been working on these matters.
779 7• Old Business
Ms. Sporteder brought up the matter of the Darden Bridge. She said she
would like to start the process for nomination of this bridge to the
National Register of Historic Places, in order to get some "help" for
it. It is a locally declared landmark. Mrs. Price moved that Ms. Spor-
leder prepare an application for nomination of the Darden Bridge to the
National Register of Historic Places. Mr. Nimtz seconded this motion
and the motion passed.
• 779 8. New Business
Mrs. Price stated that the funding at the national level for the De-
partment of the Interior was cut by the sub -committee of the House
to 50 million.
