Mr. Oxian said that
since there was no special account for the $5,000, and since there
was no program to spend it on, it was put into the County General
Fund with the stipulation that the Commission would write up a pro-
gram, when the Commission wanted the money and go before the County
Council to use the $5,000. Mr. Oxian said the $5,000 is still there.
Mrs. Price then reiterated that she wants an up-to-date written re-
port at the next meeting on these matters.
779 5• Correspondence
Mr. Stamper reported that the Commission had received the regis-
trations forms for the National Trust's annual meeting and conven-
tion in San Francisco.
A letter from the County Council that Odell Nuewburn was unanimously
appointed to the Commission was received.
A letter was sent to Mr. and Mrs. Vergil Meisner regarding their
house on which they are doing a lot of work. Hopefully, in a year
or so, the house could be declared a county historic landmark.
A letter from Paul Godollei, of Cole Associates, who is working on the
Celebration of Architects exhibit in October was received. He wants
• John Stamper and/or Joann Sporleder to work with him to help set it up.
A letter from French Realty, upon request, for information of a house
on Walnut Road in New Carlisle which is now for sale was received.
Mr. Oxian reported that a superior house on Grape Road, north of
University Mall has been sold, and perhaps this could be another
landmark.
Mr. Oxian read a letter he wrote to Robert E. Hittle, Director of En-
vironmental Services, of McGillem & Associates concerning the pro-
posed U.S. 20 Bypass, and stated that the Landmarks Committee of the
Commission is very much opposed to having the southern alternate route
become the U.S. 20 Bypass because of the probable distruction of sev-
eral county landmarks. There was discussion on this matter and Ms.
Sporleder felt that it was a good letter, but should have come from
the Commission. She also said that she would like to see a map of the
proposed route, the landmarks that are involved, etc. Mrs. Price said
that, in essence, the Commission has not taken a position and has not
made a decision in this matter. Mr. Oxian replied that the matter was
discussed at the June meeting; no one objected and, therefore, the let-
ter was written. A list of landmarks, potential landmarks and all other
buildings involved on the proposed route were read by Mr. Oxian. Mr.
Stamper also mentioned about the letter he had sent to Mr. Hittle and
that he had asked Mr. Oxian to write the letter. These letters were
personal opinions not H.P.C. policy.
0
