January 16, 1978
Page 12
was becoming more involved in environmental impact studies. He proposed
that this would be an environmental impact committee and remain permanent.
In effect, it would become a standing committee. The motion was put to a
vote and Commission members voted "aye" with Mr. Eckerle casting a dis-
senting vote. Mr. Oxian remarked that this committee should be appointed
by the next president.
Mr. Oxian then took up the question of election of officers. He remarked
that inasmuch as there was no nominating committee, he, as presiding
officer, would entertain nominations from the floor.
Mr. Nimtz nominated Mr. Ted Wasielewski for president. Mr. Eckerle
seconded this nomination.
Mr, Stivers nominated John Oxian as president. TvTrs. Sporleder seconded
this nomination.
Mr. Oxian then said he wished to step down as president inasmuch as he had
done the job for a year and now wished someone else to be voted. He, there-
fore, withdrew his name from the nomination.
Ms. Davisson wished to commend Mr. Oxian's term of office.
Mr. Oxian went on to say that his being in the headlines was not exactly
fully supported by hardly any of the other Commission members. He said he
did not see anyone speak up in his behalf and perhaps a new president could
get more co-operation and be more successful.
Mr. Smith also wished to say that Mr. Oxian had done a fine job as president.
He said that it should not appear that Mr. Oxian was being blamed or being
taken out of office because of the Odd Fellows Building. He felt Mr. Oxian
had done a tremendous job under pressure and hated to see him step down
under these circumstances. He said it (the Odd Fellows situation) was a
vote the entire Commission took.
Mr. Nimtz then moved the nominations be closed and the secretary be in-
structed to cast a unanimous ballot for Ted Wasielewski. Mr. Eckerle
seconded that motion. It was put to a vote and members voted unanimously
for Mr. Wasielewski.
Mr. Nimtz then nominated John Oxian for the position of vice president.
Mr. Wasielewski seconded this motion. There were no other nominations and
Mrs. Price moved that the nominations be closed. It was seconded and a un-
animous ballot was cast for Mr. John Oxian for vice president.
Mr. Nimtz nominated Tim Eckerle as Treasurer. Mrs. Price seconded this
nomination. Mrs. Sporleder nominated Ruth Price for this position. There
were no other nominations. The members had to openly vote for their candi-
date respectively. Mrs. Price abstained from voting. Mr. Stivers, Mrs.
Sporleder, Mr. Wasielewski and Mr. Oxian voted for Mrs. Price. Mr. Nimtz,
Mrs. Torzewski, and Mr. Rothermel voted for Mr. Eckerle. Mrs. Price by a
majority vote became the new treasurer.
Mr. Nimtz nominated Tim Eckerle for Secretary. Mr. Rothermel seconded this
nomination. Mr. Wasielewski nominated Joann Sporleder for Secretary.
