January 16, 1978
Page 13
Mrs. Price seconded this nomination. Mr. Wasielewski, Mrs. Torzewski,
Mr. Rothermel, Mr. Stivers, Mrs. Price and Mr. Oxian voted for Mrs. Spor-
leder. Mrs. Sporleder abstained and Mr. Eckerle voted for himself. Mrs.
Sporleder, by a majority vote, became the new secretary.
Mr. Wasielewski then wished to make a few remarks as the new president
of the Commission. He said it might be construed in the press as a slap
against Mr. Oxian for the recent transaction of the Commission. He said
he voted against the Odd Fellows Building but, nonetheless, admired the
determination and intestinal fortitude of Mr. Oxian. He said he will not
tolerate any slaps against Mr. Oxian personally in the future concerning
this particular problem. He said the Commission will work with the City
Administration and any department of the administration for the further
betterment of the city and county. He said if there are any questions,
then Commission members should come to him, not try another way.
Mrs. Price then asked if this were Mr. Rothermel's last meeting with the
Commission and wished to thank him for the great contribution he made to
historic preservation. Mr Ni.mtz moved that it would be appropriate to
pass a resolution to be read into the record that the Commission thanks
Mr. Rothermel's activities as charter member of the Commission and for
his work on the Commission. Mrs. Price seconded this motion. The motion
passed unanimously.
Mr. Rothermel thanked -.'the Commission and remarked that he was not eligible
to be re -appointed as he no longer resided in the city but he wished the
Commission to know that his tenure with the Commission has been an enjoy-
able experience.
Mrs. Sporleder wished to suggest that the Commission make a motion to
commend John Oxian for his very long and difficult year without a
Planner and the "troubles that just sort of befell him." She thought
he had done an excellent job. Mrs. Price seconded this motion and it
passed with Mr. Oxian abstaining.
9. Announcements and Miscellaneous Matters
There were no further announcements.
10. Hearing of Visitors
There were no remarks
11. Adjournment
Mr. Nimtz moved that the January meeting stand adjourned. Mr. Stivers
seconded this motion.
