April 132 1976
Page 4
Survey. He next spoke about the city summer interne program
and said that Dick Johnson would prefer that the Commission -
not pursue the idea. Mr. Rinderle also stated that the Land-
marks Foundation will provide more information on the tax
easement program and - informed him that the deadline for grant
applications for '76 -'77 ad arrived. He, therefore, immediately
applied for $8,000 to be used for the City Survey to fund a
staff position or a booklet. Mr. Rinderle then emphasized
the need for permanent staff funding and reported that both
CETA positions will probably be funded for another six months.
In addition, he mentioned that several persons had called and
wanted advice on how to restore their homes. He said the "Old
House Jouanal" had many good, "How -to" articles which would be
helpful in this respect and, asked Commission approval to pur-
chase all back issues to October, 1973, and to subscribe to
this periodical. Mr. Oxian made a motion that the Commission
subscribe and buy the back issues. Mr. Wasielewski seconded
this motion and it passed unanimously.
Mr. Rinderle then asked Commission approval for him and the
staff to go to Indianapolis to meet with perservation officials
and to tour their facilities. It was indicated that both mileage
and lunch expense would be paid for by the Commission. Mr. Roth -
ermel moved that these expenses be approved and Mr. Wasielewski
seconded this motion and it passed unanimously. Mr. Oxian re-
marked that the Commission should be given a report of the trip.
Walter Rinderle next brought up the reception for the owners
of homes that are included on the Auto Tour Map. He said the
office had not yet been given an estimate of what it would
cost to have it at Tippecanoe Place. Mr. Oxian said that he
would take it up at a Southhold Board meeting to be held on
Thursday.
Standards and Historic Plan Committee
Mr. Oxian remarked that the Commission is not mandated to make
up an Historic Plan. He further advised that the City Survey
should first be completed, and he stressed that the Commission
should establish goals and determine for whom the plan is in- -
tended. The Commission itself should undertake a policy state-
ment. It was further brought out that the Historic Plan should
be done professionally.
7. Old Business
Plaques
Walter Rinderle remarked that he had been in contact with the
penitentiary at Michigan City, and they informed him that one
should view the kinds of plaques which they make.
Auto Tour Map
This was discussed previously by Mr. Al Stivers.
