November 10, 1975
Page 3
Public Relations and Education
Ms. Davisson reported that she and Mr. Oxian met with Brian-
Crumlish along with the new Consultant and discussed supple-
mental material that might be acquired from Crumlish. She
stated that Mr. Crumlish plans to either visit once more with
Mr. Gaede or have him come here. It was also understood that
the survey was not quite complete at this time. Mr. Crumlish
suggested that he and a Commission member or Walter Rinderle
go out with him and complete the addresses in question. She
also spoke about the material which is available to the Com-
mission. There is a large map which depicts the entire county
and the small maps which the Commission has could be keyed into
this map. The Commission can also have access to colored slides.
Ms. Davisson also noted that Mr. Crumlish has compiled an early
history of the county. She said the Commission could perhaps --
publish a pamphlet or something that was a little more compre-
hensive. 1,L-. Crumlish is to submit a bid on this. It was
suggested that the National Park Service grant money could be
used for this project. It was also suggested that quite pos-
sibly this booklet could be sold and thereby generate some
money for the Commission. A discussion ensued as to whether the
Commission would be allowed to sell anything. Mr. Catanzarite
noted that such money generated would go into the General Fund.
Ms. Davisson next brought up the ICH meetings on zoning., the
first one being on November 19th in the Center for Continuing -
Study at Notre Dame. She noted the., many neighborhood organi-
zations are meeting to combat the new proposed zoning ordinance.
She urged Commission members to attend.
Presidential Report
Mr. Smith wanted to discuss the poor attendance at Commission
meetings but was encouraged by tonight's turnout. There was a
discussion about the possibility of meeting at another time.
Mr. Tom Catanzarite stated that he is very frequently unable
to attend Monday night and that he would consider resigning if
it would help the Commission. He further added that he would
endorse any member of the Council that would be chosen to re-
place him. Then Ms. Davisson made 'a motion that the Commission
meet on the first Tuesday in the month, starting in January.
Joanne Sporleder seconded this motion and it passed unanimously.
It was decided to notify Ms. I-Toolridge direct as to this decision.
Mr. Nimtz then gave a report on the situation with Eric Gilbertson.
It was felt that the Commission might not get any Federal money
if Mr. Gilbertson leaves his position. A call had been made to
Don Neivnan and he, in turn, called Joseph Cloud. It was stated
that Mr. Gilbertson's leaving will not hurt the Commission's
getting Federal noney. It was suggested that the members of the
Commission contact the members of the State Budget Committee of
the State Legislature and express their interest in obtaining
money for the -Historic Preservation activities in the Department
of Natural Resources.
