August 11, 1975 Page 4 Ms. Davisson suggested that there be an evening with Jack Dunfee. Mr. Oxian made a motion to this effect. It was seconded by Joanne Sporleder and passed unanimously. The Committee suggested that after attending the two train- ing meetings, individual Commission members should go out and talk with small groups of residents concerned with historic preservation. Residents and Commissioners should be matched as to expertise and interest. A bus trip to Grand Rapids Historical District was dis- cussed. It was proposed that the City Council be invited. Ms. Sporleder made a motion'that this trip be undertaken. Ms. Woolridge seconded this motion and it was passed unanimously. Lois McMahon mentioned the master plan which she and Ms. Sporleder are preparing. She said that this plan must be completed before any landmark or district can be officially established. The Public Relations Committee believes this to demand top priority: Next, Ms. Davisson passed around historical data and photo- graphs of the Chapin House which is being considered for historical designation. The Committee plans to present the fourth grade with a study of the house, complete with slides and lecture. Lois McMahon mentioned that WNDU had carried an interview with Jack Smith, Deloris Davisson and Brian Crumlish on historical landmarks which they had encountered in doing the county survey. Legal Committee Report There was no report from the legal committee at this time. Consultant's Report Lois McMahon asked for approval to buy two copies of the brochure, "Marshall - A Plan for Preservation ". These would be used in drawing up a similar historic plan for the Historic PreservationCommi.ssion. Mr. Nimtz made a motion that these books be bought. Ms. Woolridge seconded this motion and it passed unanimously. Lois McMahon stated that Channel 34 was interested in doing a report on the Historic Preservation Commission sometime in November. Research Assistant's Report Ms. Marsha Mullin reported that she had researched ap- — proximately twenty houses which were designated as super- ior in rating. She is currently working on about seven more. She is also working and researching the Chapin House.
