October 14, 1974
gage
f . Trips
Ms. Schlereth reported on the information she had
received from the Notre Dame School of Architecture.
The only trips they had planned were one that had
already taken place to Chicago to the Robie house,
and one planned for the 18th and 19th of October
to Columbus, Indiana for a Student Chapter meeting
of the A.I.A. The Commission generally agreed that
this would not be the type of trip that they would
be able to take part in.
g. Furniture
Ms. Schlereth reported that nothing had been re-
ceived from the County Commissioners. Mr. Oxian
said that he would find out what the problem was.
h. Historic Sites and Landmarks
Mr. Oxian suggested that letters be sent to every
owner of a structure in St. Joseph county that had
been listed on the old state survey, requesting their
support for possible designation as historic land-
marks.
Mr. Oxian moved that the Darden Bridge be declared
a historic landmark based on the information that
was already available relative to its history. Ms.
Sporleder seconded the motion and it passed un-
animously. Mr. Smith.delegated the secretary to
write a letter stating the Commission's action, which
Mr. Oxian would present to the next County Council
meeting.
Mr. Oxian then moved that owners of those landmarks
outside the West Washington District and not located
at the University of Notre Dame be contacted and
asked for their support for possible designation as
historic landmarks. Ms. Sporleder seconded the
motion and it passed.
Mr. Nimtz moved that the old Courthouse be declared
and historic landmark. Mr. Rothermel seconded the
motion and it passed unanimously.
Mr. Oxian then discussed the Kresge Building and
said that based on his knowledge of other buildings
in Seattle and elsewhere, he felt that the Kresge
Building should be declared an historic landmark.
He so moved. There was no second. Ms. Davisson
suggested that a letter be sent to the owners of
the Kresge Building, similar to the one sent to the
owners of property on the state survey.
i. Proposed.Re-zoning at 733 West Washington.
