Old Business
a.) Consultant's Proposals
Mr..Rothermel suggested that letters be sent to the consultants
stating that we only received $5,000. to be used for survey
work, and are trying to get additional funding from Com-
munity Development resources.
Mr. Oxian said that we should use the money left over from
the 1974 budget to start the survey and add the $5,,000. to
that sum.
Ms. Sporleder suggested that letters be sent to the consultants
to see if they are interested in doing a piece -meal survey.
Ms. Schlereth- . discussed the progress that has been made in
putting together a proposal.to have the architecture and
social science faculty at the -University of Notre Dame do
the survey. She distributed a draft of a possible method
of putting together such a proposal that had been used to
acquaint N.D. faculty members with the work of the Commission
and how they might become involved in such a project. This
type of proposal would try to get private foundation support.
A discussion of the feasibility., and desirability., of such
a project ensued. Mr. Smith appointed Ms. Deloris.Davisson
to workwithMs. Schlereth and the N.D..faculty.
Ms. Sporleder brought up s ' ome new business that she believed
related to this project. She stated that the last issue of
Preservation News reported that there would be a duplication
of LaSalle's canoe trip that would come through South Bend and
-St. Joseph County in 1976. She thought that investigation into
the location of the Kankakee portage might be -included in the
historical reseaxch that would take place in the Notre Dame
project.
b.) Cataloging Proposal
Mr.'.Smith stated that our letters to various area librarians
had obviously been grossly misunderstood. Mr. Nimtz., Ms.
Sporleder and Ms. Price stated that, they would contact other
-librarians to get their advice..
