NEW BUSINESS (Cont.) <br />a. continued... <br />volunteers to monitor property conditions. <br />The committee has six short term <br />objectives: construction of the Kendall <br />Street pocket park (already designed and <br />funded); raise $40,000 to install new play <br />equipment in Rum Village Park; hold two <br />neighborhood clean-up / fix -up campaigns <br />per year; organize volunteers to keep <br />alleys cleaned of trash and debris; recruit <br />and train 10 community monitors to spot <br />code enforcement violations; and employ <br />neighborhood youth in clean-up and <br />landscaping projects in the neighborhood. <br />Longer term objectives include: having a <br />neighborhood "gateway" designed and <br />constructed at four locations; developing a <br />streetscape designed for Indiana Avenue; <br />undertaking a neighborhood street tree <br />planting campaign throughout the <br />neighborhood; establishing a network of <br />community gardens; and creating a <br />neighborhood lending pool for yard tools. <br />George Baker, member of the Housing <br />Committee, outlined the action strategies <br />for that committee. The short term list <br />includes: coordinate volunteer groups to <br />assist home owners with routine <br />maintenance and minor rehab; <br />aggressively report code violations and <br />keep neighbors informed of action <br />through a newsletter; organize a landlord <br />committee and publish an evaluation of all <br />rental properties in the neighborhood; <br />sponsor business break Fasts for realtors <br />Awk <br />-7- <br />
