They have started to <br />monitor the neighborhood crime statistics <br />to identify the "hot spots" and what kinds <br />of crimes are being committed. <br />Identifying the types of crimes and the <br />"hot spots" will allow them to address <br />those patterns. Some of the actions that <br />the neighborhood plans are: continuing to <br />push for more Neighborhood Watch <br />blocks, holding security home clinics to <br />teach home safety; developing a <br />telephone chain to keep people informed <br />about what is happening in the <br />neighborhood; regular police patrols <br />through the neighborhood; and installing <br />more lighting throughout the <br />neighborhood to discourage illegal <br />activity. <br />Ms. Kaser outlined the actions that the <br />neighborhood plans to take over the <br />longer term: organize a program to care <br />for latch -key children, organize a <br />volunteer escort service and a <br />neighborhood help line, secure a <br />permanent security force for Rum Village <br />Park, and developing a teen conflict <br />mediation team. <br />Steve Grunwald told about the <br />neighborhood image enhancement <br />strategy. This effort will attempt to <br />improve the physical appearance of the <br />neighborhood by using landscaping and <br />other urban design elements and by using <br />Aft <br />-6- <br />
