South Bend Redevelopment Commission
Regular Meeting - May 19, 1995
f6
6. NEW BUSEWSS
d. continued...
are often incinerated in a high temperature
application like a cement kiln, or they are
sent to an oil or petrolium recycler where
they would be refined into new lubricants to
be sold. This is a leading edge type of
recycling technology.
Mr. Faccenda stated that this seems like a
great addition to our local industrial
community.
Mrs. Kolata stated that Absorbtech had
presented the staff with a video about the
products they sell and the process they use.
They have won environmental awards in the
state of Wisconsin for this process. Mr.
Trybula stated that the company has been
given the Business Friend of the
Environment Award from the Wisconsin
Environmental Working Group for their
New Berlin facility. The company's officers
told him that their waste water is returned to
the sewage system, and the quality of the
water going out into the sewage system is
higher quality than what they take in.
Mrs. Kolata stated that if and when
Absorbtech does add the water facility, they
will be doing sewage pre- treatment right on
site. The waste products are taken out of
the water and recycled. These waste
products ultimately become useful products
or usable BTU's in a kiln facility, so there is
a second life for these petroleum products.
-11-
