South Bend Redevelopment Commission
Regular Meeting - April 7, 1995
committee) is very important. She felt that
the concept of relocating the museum to the
administration building was an exciting one,
but will require significant more time and
energy to see it through to fruition.
Ms. Auburn noted that, when Studebaker
Museum rejected the idea of using the
Tianswestern site a couple of years ago, the
Commission and staff used due diligence to
find another developer for the Transwestern
site.
Eugene Ladewski noted that he was not
speaking to the Commission as a City
Council member, but as a citizen. He
supported the proposal of the Studebaker
Drivers' Club. He felt that the Commission
would be sending them the wrong message
to turn them down completely. Studebaker
Museum needs a solution to its relocation
needs soon and the school corporation would
have an opportunity to get out from under a
building that doesn't meet its needs.
Carter Wolf, Director of Center City
Associates, suggested that both parties could
sit down and discuss how they might both
use the site. It is a very large site.
Mrs. Kolata noted that the staff recommends
selecting the Design Packaging proposal. It
is a firm offer, negotiated over several
months. It will be built in 1995 and go on
the tax base. Also, it allows an
incompatible use in the East Bank to move
6. NEW BUSEWSS (Cont.)
C. continued...
IL -14-
