South Bend Redevelopment Commission
Regular Meeting - April 7, 1995
with representatives from the City on
March 14, he was told that there would be
two obstacles to overcome: acquiring the
SBCSC administration building and
acquiring the privately owned Vandalia
Station. He has also talked with the owner
of Vandalic Station and entered into a verbal
agreement to purchase that property. There
was no mention by the City that they were
working with another business for
development of that site.
Jon Hunt, Executive Director of the
Department of Community & Economic
Development, noted that, as the one person
who sat in on discussions with all parties
involved, he regrets that the Commission
finds itself in such a difficult position. He
indicated to the Studebaker Drivers' Club on
March 14 that it was a great step forward
for the Drivers' Club to become a partner
with Studebaker Museum in fundraising for
the new museum and by participating on the
museum board of directors. Although he
realized at that time that the Drivers' Club
and Museum's first choice for a museum
location was the school corporation's
administration building (including plans for
the Transwestern site), it is not the staff's
policy to disclose negotiations it is involved
in with other parties interested in the same
site(s). He did, however, ask (at that
meeting) if the Drivers' Club would
continue to work with the City and Museum
if the school corporation building was not
available to them. The Drivers' Club said
6. NEW BUSINESS (Cont.)
C. continued...
IL -12-
