South Bend Redevelopment Commission <br />Regular Meeting - April 7, 1995 <br />projects. They hope that whoever purchases <br />that site will maintain the standard, both in <br />building and landscaping. <br />Mrs. Kolata noted that Design Packaging <br />has indicated that it will landscape and <br />maintain the south portion of the site that <br />will be developed in the future. <br />Mrs. Kolata noted that Design Packaging <br />first became interested in relocating to the <br />Studebaker Corridor in 1988 when it <br />proposed to use a portion of the <br />Transwestern Building when the <br />Commission put the two ends of the building <br />up for bid. <br />Patrick Billey made the presentation on <br />behalf of the Studebaker Drivers' Club. He <br />noted that the Drivers' Club proposed a new <br />Studebaker Museum over a year ago. The <br />Transwestern site is needed for parking for <br />the museum as well as "greenspace" for car <br />shows and other civic uses. The City of <br />South Bend has been asking the Studebaker <br />Drivers' Club to take a more active role in <br />the development of a new Studebaker <br />Museum in South Bend. The Drivers' Club <br />proposes to be an equal partner with the <br />City and Studebaker Museum in a new, <br />$10,000,000 museum. <br />Mr. Billey noted that he has met with Dr. <br />Virginia Calvin, School Superintendent, who <br />was very receptive to the idea of selling the <br />building to the Drivers' Club.
