NEW BUSINESS (Cont.) <br />a. continued... <br />new neighbors such as the Family & <br />Children's Center, the new juvenile center, <br />and, hopefully, the new IVY Tbch); work <br />to keep Riley High School in the <br />neighborhood; change all B- Residential <br />zoning to A Residential (to maintain the <br />remaining neighborhood as single - family <br />residential); use vacant land for flower <br />gardens, vegetable gardens, and parks <br />until in -fill housing occurs; develop a park <br />north of Pennsylvania (to replace Dean <br />Johnson Park); control the traffic flow <br />through the neighborhood with parking <br />restrictions, more 4 -way stops, reducing <br />truck traffic, and, possibly, closing a <br />portion of Fellows Street; and work with <br />the businesses along Michigan Street and <br />Miami Street to improve those commercial <br />strips. <br />Micki Marsh presented the section on <br />Neighborhood Security on behalf of Harry <br />Marsh who could not attend. The <br />Neighborhood Security Task Force <br />identified the following areas of concern: <br />the fear of crime among the neighbors; the <br />perceived higher rate of crime in the <br />neighborhood; the immediate release of <br />criminals following arrest; and inadequate <br />crime prevention programs. The goals set <br />to address these concerns are: organize to <br />fight criminal elements from both inside <br />and outside the neighborhood; and form a <br />partnership of police, prosecutors, and <br />judges to apprehend and prosecute <br />criminals and see that they remain behind <br />IL -7- <br />
