South Bend Redevelopment Commission
'4egular Meeting - February 4, 1994
6. NEW BUSINESS (Cont.)
c. continued...
the lot to the north of theirs has done nothing
to that sidewalk. It has not been maintained,
which I think is sad. And I understand that
this person is a judge. I don't know the
name. I don't know whether acting or past.
But it seems to me that a person of that past
or current responsibility should have known
better than to have let that sidewalk fall into
disrepair. In the fact that the Polacks have
taken care of theirs so very well, is just
another small example of their sense of civic
pride.
The outside of the house, in itself, is
interesting, but the inside is exquisite. I have
been into many, many beautiful homes in
Europe. As you know I am English. Quite
honestly, this is a bit of Americana that
should not be destroyed. You should not
make a decision on this gorgeous place until
you go into it. It is breathtakingly elegant
inside! It really is. The workmanship in the
woodwork is just outstanding. And I urge
you not to make any decision on this. I urge
you to go, personally, and look to see it. I
have been to the historic walks that they have
in town and, really, there is nothing like it
that I have seen in town. There really is not.
This would not interfere with the juvenile
detention home in the slightest! I really think
that this is a property that should be saved, as
Tippecanoe Place and others were saved.
This is definitely well worth saving. Thank
YOU.
CW -30-
