NEW BUSINESS (Cont.)
c. continued...
Southeast sub -area will be revitalization of
the neighborhood. There is a high
percentage of rental housing which is a major
cause of the residential deterioration. The
goal for the south sector will be
improvement, concentrating on urban design.
The South Bend Community School
Corporation plans to build a new Riley High
School in this sector.
The goal for three sectors of the Studebaker
Comdor /South Gateway sub -area will be
redevelopment. In the fourth sector we will
emphasize strengthening existing businesses.
The goal for the Rum Village Industrial
District sub -area will be demucking,
environmental testing, capitalizing on railroad
access and by -pass access to encourage
development, and improving Olive Road and
land use along Olive Road.
The goal for the Sample- Indiana Industrial
District will be to improve the edges where it
abuts residential areas or the downtown
through urban design and deal with the
environmental contamination that is likely
present there.
The goal for the Rum Village Neighborhood
sub -area is to stabilize it. Although this is
the better of the two neighborhoods, there are
some pockets of deterioration that should be
stopped before they spread.
-13-
