South Bend Redevelopment Commission
Regular Meeting - September 3, 1993
4. COMMUNICATIONS (Cont.)
a. continued...
Advocated for New Corporate Park", 1 felt I
must write in support for such a project.
Most office and industrial parks I've seen
are sterile. They consist of buildings,
concrete, asphalt, with little greenery.
You have a chance this time to make the
Blackthorn Corporate Park truly unique by
adding the proposed wetland area to replace
the usual retention basin. The additional
footpaths, board walks and picnic tables
mentioned will further enhance the corporate
park.
Wetlands, even those with seasonal water,
support many types of waterfowl, ducks and
shorebirds, to mention a few, and
amphibians which help eliminate mosquitoes.
If the water is deep enough in spots, fish
may even survive. Additionally, wetlands
detain water and prevent flooding, recharge
the ground water and even clean water.
The South Bend Audubon Society is a great
supporter of wetlands and wetlands
development. Even a few acres makes a big
difference. We wish to applaud you for
considering and, hopefully, following
through with the proposed plans.
Sincerely,
South Bend Audubon Society
Tom Stankus, President
-4-
