CW South Bend Redevelopment Commission
Regular Meeting - May 21, 1993
6. NEW BUSINESS (Cont.)
a. continued...
Board. The school administration has been
aware of our planning for this area. By law,
and this is a fairly recent change, we must
notify other taxing jurisdictions who are
located within this Sample -Ewing
Development Area of the hearing and the fact
that the Commission is considering taking
action on a tax increment financing area. So
we sent that notice of the hearing and a
statement of benefits, which is required by
law, to all of those taxing jurisdictions. And
that is everything from the Portage Township
Assessor to the St. Joseph County Auditor,
the Commission, the South Bend City
Council —I have the list here in front of
me —the Library, the Airport Authority....
Anyone who has taxing power within this
area had to be notified and the law requires
that they get a copy of the statement of
benefits and the Notice of Public Hearing.
That was done and that was sent. I believe
that either yesterday or the day before, we
had a request from the School Board for
copies of the plan. Those copies will be
made available. They did not, necessarily,
want them prior to this meeting. They did
not make an issue of the plan —we are making
copies for them. That's entirely up to the
different taxing jurisdictions as to whether
they want to ask for the information or not.
The notice says that it's available and they
did get copies of that notice.
MS. AUBURN: I appreciate your questions.
I'm glad that you asked them.
-31-
