South Bend Redevelopment Commission
Regular Meeting - May 21, 1993
6. NEW BUSINESS (Cont.)
a. continued...
saying is your policy. That area is to be
conserved and rehabilitated. You do not
conserve and rehabilitate residential buildings
by tearing them out. Thank you for listening
to me.
MS. AUBURN: I think I need to remind the
public that this is not a hearing on Riley high
School. It's a hearing on bringing together
the five areas into one redevelopment area
and tax incremental district. So, who else
would like to speak.
MR. BRADEMAS: I apologize to the
President if I have been out of order. But I
` do think that since you have, in your plan,
made specific reference to Riley High School,
that it is a proper topic for discussion. And
especially when you say in your plan you are
proposing to adopt, that the treatment for this
particular area is to be conservation and
rehabilitation. These are generic terms that
we planners use, but I assume Jon would
agree it's to be conserved and rehabilitated
rather than spot clearance here and complete
clearance here. This is the best part of the
neighborhood. You want to come in here and
tear the heart out of it. It just doesn't make
any sense at all. I just ask that you don't
give any aid and comfort to the School Board
in this effort.
MS. AUBURN: You've had your say, Mr.
Brademas. This is not a hearing on Riley
High School. This is a hearing on the
-24-
