South Bend Redevelopment Commission
Regular Meeting - May 21, 1993
6. NEW BUSINESS (Cont.)
a. continued...
redevelopment district. Is there anyone else
from the public who would like to speak.
MR. BURKE: I'm Erwin Burke. I'm
President of the South Gateway Improvement
Association. I live at 3516 Woodmont Drive
in South Bend. We started South Gateway
about ten years ago. This is our tenth
anniversary. Things are coming to a head on
the south side of South Bend. We're very,
very supportive of this resolution. So much
is going to happen to revitalize South
Gateway. Our territory is from Monroe
Street out to the City limits, Michigan and
Main, Miami Street, and we're broadening
now. Our outlook has always been that,
whatever happens to South Bend happens to
South Gateway. We feel very strongly about
that. We tape in Scottsdale Mall and the
entire southeast section. We're supportive of
all the effort that's going to go forward into
this redevelopment area. On South Michigan
we're going to see major, major changes in
the next three years. The Area Plan
Commission has come up with a three -year
plan for us. We're already starting to see
construction, very constructive constriction
going on with Real Services and the Police
Credit Union. We welcome the Juvenile
Center, Juvenile Probate Court, we're
supportive of Riley High School, we're
supportive of a lot of changes going on in our
section. Private money cannot do it alone.
This is our solution to start bringing the south
gateway to South Bend up to par. We're
very supportive of your efforts. Thank you.
-25-
