South Bend has been in the <br />process of trying to bring a Triple -A <br />franchise to Stanley Coveleski Regional <br />Sta 'tun. The National League major <br />Jea a decided to add two teams for the <br />season. Minor league baseball has <br />wed suit to accommodate those two <br />South Bend responded to a request for <br />pro s sent out in August 1990 by <br />filing an application for a Triple -A <br />franchise. We made a formal presentation <br />to the Triple -A expansion committee in <br />November. Twenty cities made <br />application. Four of those cities have <br />met the objective criteria set by the <br />coimmttee- Ten others, South Bend among <br />thenk, lacked a couple of the objective <br />criteria: 1) securing subscriptions for <br />2500 season tickets, and 2) cammitment to <br />the present facility to a seating <br />capacity of 10,000. <br />-7- <br />
