South Bend
Regular Meg
5.
a.
elopment Commission
- November 9, 1990
(Cant.)
to the Ridge Company. We will then look
at buying part of the railroad
right-of-way. The other area we have
aslad the surveyor to look at is Block
17, behind the Dew Drop Inn. Because the
former railroad right- of-way extends
be een Sample and Tutt we are leaving
the former railroad right- of-way off the
acclitisition list but we expect to come
back at a later point and work out a
bet arrangement for handling the
par for the Dew Drop Inn.
Mr. Focius stated that one advantage of
rempving some of these parcels from the
accILLisition list is it allows for the
private sector to take the initiative and
do some development in this area which is
our ultimate goal.
Ms. Auburn stated that one of the
C 'ssion's concerns with some of these
properties was their appearance. She
ask if the staff discussed the exterior
aprxerance with the business owners.
Mr. Focius stated that we are currently
worlang on design guidelines for the
Studebaker Corridor Development Area. As
the character of that area changes,
properties which at one time may have
been acceptable in appearance are no
loncer going to be acceptable and we made
thai. clear.
Ms.
for
in
to
olata stated that we had favorable
fissions with almost all of the
xty owners. We had a lot of support
hat the Commission is trying to do
e Studebaker Corridor. Many of their
nts were that they would be glad to
eve their property if surrounding
rties were improved. We have tried
sure them that that is our goal
We told the owners we want the
of their property to look as good as
-7-
