South Bend edevelopment Commission
Regular Mee ing - November 9, 1990
W
a.
IM
Ms.olata requested that this be tabled
unt 1 the Special Meeting of November 16,
Ms. Kolata stated that the renovation of
the former Penny's Building into the
nic#& club, Meanwhile..., is well
undcavay and they are placing scaffolding
all along Michigan St. in order to
comc truct the new facade. The owners are
also interested in putting scaffolding
down the alley on the side but are unable
to fit it in because of the fire escape
on the State Theatre. The staff is
reccumending that the fire escape be
removed. No matter how that building is
other than as a theatre with no
charges, you have to make other
arrangements for fire exiting and that
firo escape wouldn't be necessary.
Ms. Kolata stated that Ms. Hickey has
gotten three proposals for the removal of
the fire escape. The proposals are from
- Spraker, Calvin Murdock and Sons
and Erecto, Inc.
Mr.
on
!olf stated that he has read articles
storations. Although the fire
e isn't modern, it does meet the
code as it exists. And if the State
re is rehabbed it would need major
ior restructuring for fire exits.
-10-
ITEM 6.a. WAS TABLED UNTIL THE
SPECIAL COMMISSION MEETING OF
NOVEMBER 16, 1990.
