South Bend ]Redevelopment Commission
Regular Mee ing - October 26, 1990
6. NEW BUSMFSS (Cont.)
a. continued...
Ms. Kolata said that our concept for the
arat has not changed. When we adopted
the official redevelopment plan no
properties were scheduled for acquisition
in the official plan as it was originally
adopted. That was back several years ago.
Them we came fon4ar. in July and approved
a resolution that added approximately 30
p ies to the acquisition list. What
this resolution is doing is amending the
pl by adding additional properties to
the list. The concept of the plan has
never changed. The concept of the plan
has always been to clear out the
bli ting and unrelated use properties.
For example, the residential properties
and the vacant lots. A lot of the
discmssion today is focused around the
parlang lots and storage yards. We are
proposing to clean out and remove the
properties that have not been utilized to
their fullest. Whether or not a
construction yawl is a utilization to the
fullest is something that the Commission
is croirxj to discuss. There are merits to
the arguments presented both today and in
the past. We are not trying to do harm
to any existing business in the
co idor. What we are trying to do is
rexKve those properties that are not
coiqatible or not in good condition and
then to make that land available for new
ial and light industrial
I
J
nk the Commission and the staff
I be very willing to discuss, on an
Idual basis, each of the
instances that are being brought up
Generally our purpose is to create
and provide land for development.
-21-
