South Bend edevelcpment Commission
Regular Meeting - October 26, 1990
6. NEW BUSVESS (Cont.)
a. continued...
Mr. Paul White, Edward J. White Plumbing
and Heating. I own property on Main
Street. My father started the business
in that location in 1927 on Michigan St.
and over the years we have acquired
adjoining property across the alley on
Main St. I own a total of 4 lots on Main
St. for storage. You want to buy half of
that. If you buy half of my yard in
effe,at you put me out of business. I
don t think it's fair Iand I'm not going
to sit still and see it be done. I would
like my property removed fram, the list of
acchisitions.
Calvin Murdock with Murdock & Sons
Construction as well as Calvin Murdock
personally and Omega Properties. I have
had numerous hearings with Economic
Development with regards to our own
proposed development on Lafayette and
F!rwiklin St. I am confused as to why
those properties that we have acquired at
scmn cost are on the list. We have been
told that what we are proposing is
consistent with Economic Development's
aim to develop the area. We are indeed
anx ous to see those efforts continue,
particularly with those parcels we have
sated that we need some assistance in
acciairing in order that we can control
enot gh of the property. I think there are
3 or 4 parcels that we do need in order
to J ulfill the master plan of our
pro ect. We can see that we have an
extianeous tract of land dawn in the 1100
block that is not contiguous with any of
the other properties that I certainly see
will, be consistent to relinquish that.
But I don't see the merit particularly
wi the effort and considerable dollars
the we've already invested in our
-17-
