South Bend evelopment Commission
Regular Mee ing - February 23, 1990
6. NEW BUS= S (Cont.)
h. continued...
I'm in the midst of doing this, and
becc use of what exists on Washington
St-net today, I'm having one hell of a
t' . Now, there is a young lady who is
desirous of taking the practice over.
But she questions very seriously about
this condition that exists on Washington
Street and I am showing her these plans
where we are trying to clean up the area
and make it compatible so she can move
here. It is virtually impossible to get
anyone who is beginning a business to
1 to his business there unless
scuK thing is done to clean up the
conc 'tions.
Mr. Nimtz: Did I read a notice that you
are retiring, Dr. Butts?
. That's right.
z• After how many years of
Forty -three years.
You look well after
se years.
Is there anyone else?
Ms. ewbill: My name is Marian Newbill
and I've worked here for 25 years. My
business was a good business and now it's
no business. I'd like to know haw come
you people can't have a law for
loi ing. Nobody seems to stop the
loiterincr.
Mrs. Kolata: I don't know what the
police rules are on loitering. I know
that, 's a concern. Obviously, it's a
publ is sidewalk and people are allowed to
on a sidewalk, and where do you draw
the line. I don't know. That certainly
is concern of ours. We're not in this
jus as a redevelopment project, but also
-16-
