U
South Bend I Redevelopment Commssion
Rescheduleq Regular Meeting - April 13, 1989
6. NEW =D1ESS (Cont.)
b. Coritinued...
up of blacks and whites that have
working together for over three
0, when the first plan started.
Now we have developed this Comprehensive
Plan. Contrary to what you may hear,
some of the dreams and some of the
visions that we have is that one day that
the West Washington and the Chapin Street
area will be a place where minorities can
ha a small businesses and not necessarily
evc ry day, run of the mill things, but
businesses that can, as we have seen in
otter cities, that have branched out.
Ev some people that I know are doing
overseas business now. They are small,
mir rity businesses. So we hope to see,
one of these days, right in the area, a
of both black and white, not only
living together and working together, but
devalcping businesses that will employ
people. Because the bottom line is
eco-iomic developTient and education for
all. I am a true supporter of this Plan
and I hope that you do approve it. Thank
Ellison: Mr. Nimtz, members of the CARL ELLISON
Ccmxission, my name is Carl Ellison and I
live at 1740 Hass Drive.
It's been a while since I've had the
rtunity to address you. I'm
espacially grateful to stand before you
tonight and request your support of a
rational, realistic and achievable Plan
that will allow the Near Westside to
further realize its economic and physical
dev lcpmQnt potential.
The Commission historically played both a
leadership and supportive role in
attmpting to improve the Near Westside
cammzaty. While some may feel that all
effort, and even contemplated
eff rt, may not be fully successful, no
one I can maintain that this Commission has
-24-
