° J
South Bend Redevelopment Commission
Resdiedule4 Regular Meeting - April 13, 1989
6.
b. Continued...
been willing to listen to the
-rations and concerns of citizens and
an honest effort to respond.
ght the Commission has another
irtunity to respond to the voice of
people. The Plan amendment before
reflects consensus as to necessary
lopment steps to accelerate the
talization of this area.
The Commission is asked by the people to
assume a strategic leadership role in the
dyramic partnership that has evolved
amcng neighborhood residents, community
based organizations, the private sector,
local government. Adoption of this
plan amendment means that the Commission
once again accepts and commits itself to
providing appropriate leadership, in
co junction with the other partners who
ha a developed this wonderful plan, to
foster and help oversee positive change
in this neighborhood.
I x, ant to compliment the WWCRP and all
otters involved in the planning
prc cess. The process which produced
plan has in my judgement, been
the and inclusive. Anyone wishing
to iave input was given the opportunity
to Io so aver a long period of time.
Hav uig input does not necessarily mean
all parties at the end will agree as
to :)lan elements, but everyone has had a
to put their two cents in. In
fa c--, this planning process has been
exerplary, and reflects a planning model
tha could be applied to other areas such
as the near Southeast side which also
neeo development attention.
hoot my public and private sector
, I have never observed a
orhood based planning process
than this one.
-25-
