South Bend edevelopment Commission
Reschedulel Regular Meeting - April 13, 1989
6. NEW BUSINESS (Cont.)
b. Continued...
within the West Washington neighborhood
richt now. That is traditionally the way
th are spaced. The buildings will have
front and back yards. The buildings will
be two stories tall and will also be
'architecturally compatible with what
already exists within the neighborhood.
We do not want these properties to stand
out as some type of government housing,
but, in fact, be an aesthetic compliment
to that is already there. They will be
ap ximately 1150 square feet, two and
bedrooms. As we are preparing our
req.iests for proposals to local
arcAtects and developers, we are also
s sing issues of energy efficiency and
J a couple concluding remarks that I
to make about this project, is that
we very much in a planning stage. We
do have strong commitment from our Board
of Directors in this planning. We are
working with consultants from the Center
for Community Change in Washington, who
are assisting us. We are responding to
the recommendations of the Comprehensive
Pla,,i and we are also treating the
recmmiendations as a concept, in that it
is 3aying, again, a reduction of the
commrcial space, an increase in the
res'dential space. As we sit down and do
our planning, we may suggest that the
sho ping center be west of Walnut; or we
may suggest that, as you see two houses
eas of the former Slutsky Peitz
building, maybe we think that that should
reaIly be reserved singly for the
dev lcpment of Slutsky Peitz. So our
plan may come in a little bit different
exactly the way it is seen on the
we are finished, we are pleased to
r any questions you may have about
project.
-19-
