Respectfully, Chris Davey Mr. Davey reported that the Downtown Technical AdvisorV Committee (DTAC) has recently merged with Ce ter City Associates (CCA). A brochure has beem completed that highlights the goals and objectives of the CCA organization. CCA is a coalition of people who live and work in the do town area. Their primary objective is the overall enhancement and revitalization of the do town business district which is the core ingredient in the success of any community. When DTAC was originally organiz d, they visited cities comparable to South Bend in size, population, geographic and demographic conditions. Many cities visited had pedestrian malls in the downtown area. As true in most other areas, the advent of the regional. malls has moved people away from the downtowi area. After the visits to other cities, DTAC has discussed how important it is to open up Michigan Street. Also, the opening up of downtown one -way streets to two -way traffic has been a big advantage for the downtown. The consensus of CCA is to strongly encourage the re- opening of Michigan Street, and they feel that will have a significant impact y creating traffic and activity in that ar a.
