One bid was received <br />from Kaser- Spraker Construction, Inc., in the <br />amo t of $17,300.00 for the carpentry work. <br />Another bid was received from T. George Podell <br />& C mpany in the amount of $6,610.00 for the <br />cleaning. The staff recommendation is to <br />acc pt the bid from Kaser - Spraker <br />Construction, Inc., with the deletion of the <br />pre3aration for painting which would reduce <br />their bid by $974.00 for a total bid price of <br />$16 326.00. <br />Mr. Pitts further explained that the balance <br />of the $50,000.00 fund for this project is <br />$16,724.68, that would cover the carpentry <br />con ract which is the most technical of the <br />four contracts but would not cover the costs <br />of cleaning the building. The staff <br />re mmendation is to proceed with the <br />reliabilitation of the building through a <br />co ination of $5,000 f ran Community <br />Development Jobs Bill Funds for materials and <br />a part-time employee; volunteer efforts put <br />forth by South Bend Heritage Foundation and <br />the Monroe Park Neighborhood Association, one <br />emp oyee from the Department of Redevelopment, <br />one employee from the Park Department, and the <br />part-time employee funded by the Jobs Bill <br />Funding. The cleaning of the building would <br />be one by City employees and the painting <br />wou d be done by the volunteer effort. <br />Ms. Schwartz explained that she will be <br />preparing a waiver of liability for the <br />volitnteers to sign releasing the City of any <br />responsibility. <br />It as noted for the record that Mr. Nimtz <br />dis lified himself from voting. Ms. Auburn <br />was placed in the chair. <br />Upo a motion made by Mr. Donaldson, seconded <br />by Dr. Piasecki and unanimously carried, the <br />Cormission accepted the revised bid fran <br />Kas r- Spraker Construction Company in the <br />amount of $16,326.00 for carpentry work, <br />rej cted the bid of T.
