South Bend edevelopment Commission
Rescheduled Regular Meeting - June 26, 1981
7. NEW BUSINESS
g. and $. continued...
Bas cally, we have been talking about doing some
hou ing residential program in the Monroe - Sample
are What we are requesting is permission to
ent r contracts that specify certain roles for
His oric Landmarks Foundation of Indiana and
Southold Heritage Foundation. At the same time
the City, through the Department of Redevelopment,
wou d be assuming certain roles in that residential
program. Basically, Historic Landmarks would do
some coordination of work with architectural in-
ter s who would - identify houses to be moved and
ide tify new locations for those houses. They
could recommend. exterior rehabilitation for exist-
ing housing and they will also recommend designs
for new construction for the area. They will do
dra ings and a lot of design recommendations for the
residential area. They will eventually do some
mar eting brochures promoting the neighborhood and
ass st in distribution of those brochures, and will
be nvolved in providing technical assistance on an
on- oing basis to Southold Heritage Foundation.
Sou
ter
hoo
the
the
Wes
vid
ing
fin
to
per
We
DeD
We
cal
the
to t
Lano
tog(
is
expo
the
Hou:
tha7
hold Heritage Foundation has expressed an in-
st in operating a site office in the neighbor -
and we would like to be in a position to assist
in that manner. We would like . them to expand
services that they are currently providing in the
Washington Area to the Monroe- Sample Area by pro-
ng counseling to area residents and that counsel -
would include technical housing rehab as well as
ncial assistance. One of their key roles will be
oordinate the house moving, because of their ex-
ise in moving houses in the West Washington Area.
ould, in effect, ask them to handle that for the
rtment.
ntend to adopt design guidelines, some specifi-
y for the residential area and different ones for
industrial and commercial areas. We would like
ork very closely with Southold and with Historic
marks to establish programs and then to work
ther on this to insure that whatever public money
ut into the neighborhood is well invested. We
ct that there will be a new housing program for
residents of that area through the Bureau of
ing. We have not yet totally identified what
program would consist of.
