South Bend Redevelopment Commission
Regular Me ting - March 20, 1981
5. PUBLICIHEARING (continued)
months months after that in acquiring that. It doesn't
come that fast. Just like Mr. McMahon indicated, you
don't now what is going to come down the pipe line as
far as the new administration is concerned. We are all
sitting here talking hypothetically, but nobody really
knows what is going to happen.
Mr. Ci a asked Mr. West if nothing happens, is he happy
with his business today.
Mr. We t responded that he was happy the way it stands
today.
Mr. Ni tz said that Substandard is getting rid of those
houses year by year. This is one of the situations that
is going on. A house deteriorates, the Substandard Depart-
ment gives a notice, nothing is done and down comes the
house. That is why you have vacant lots there. This is
going o continue unless something.is done. You are going
to con inue losing customers gradually.
Mr. We ;t said he isn't asking that the Commission do nothing,
he is sking that they be fair in what they do.
Mr. Ci a asked Mr. West what he is requesting the Commis-
sion to do today.
Mr. West replied that he was asking the Commission to
hold u on the resolution until such time that everyone
in that area is satisfied.
Mr. Ci a told Mr. West that the Commission was not going
to hurt him today.
Mr. We t replied today, tomorrow, next week, a month, you
are to king about demolition to start next month.
Mr. Butler suggested that if the Commission were to hold up
action on that property, we would very likely have to begin
the pr cess all over. We cannot add a property to the
acquisition list at this point in time, we can delete, but
we cannot add. We would have to cancel what has been done
to this point and start the process all over again. In
effect, we would need a resolution terminating and re-
scinding the prior resolution. Whether we would consider
adding that property today or next week, next month, or six
months from now, we could not do it through the vehicle of
this r solution, not with this plan. We would have to in-
stitut a new plan.
26
