PUBLICIHEARING (continued) Mr. Wet asked how many homes of the seventy -four that the Co mission was going to take had families in them. Mr. Mc ahon asked Mrs. Kolata if she could give an es ima ed number. Mrs. Kolata said that she could not off ha d and would have to look through the files Mr. McMahon said that based on our conversation, he is asking the Commission to take the action today with the understanding that the green area, where the bulk of the houses are located, is not up before the Commission and won't be until April. A decision on whether to do some- thing with Max's Grocery from an acquisition standpoint could be included at the same time that a decision is made with respect to the bulk of the housing that is down in that area. Second y, it will give the Commission an opportunity to review the appropriateness of that type of action. Right now we feel that a neighborhood grocery store is necessary in the neighborhood. We feel that the market in the future for a rocery store will be better and greater in that area, if we re successful than it is today. Right now it is also a fact that what we are proposing in that area which is a " Residential zoning is compatible with having a grocert store there. The grocery store is consistent with our pl n -and is exactly the kind of facility we would like to see there. The whole question is coming down to the situation of a small grocery store, and I don't believe that M% McKnight or Mr. West would disagree with my state- ment tat they will probably have a better market in the future or a good chance of it, and there is not a bad market there now. The whole question is coming down to that p int in time that there may be some disruptions in their ibility to survive during that period of time which we ack owledge is a difficult situation. But in light of the fa :t that we do not need the property for any action and th use of the existing property is consistent with what i proposed for the neighborhood, I think that the Commis ion has to look at this and talk with [IUD and make certaii that we are not into a non - compliance situation. That ,you would nove with the plan at this time and take a look at how to handle Max's Grocery store at the time of the bulk of the housing decision would be made, which is sometime in the first part of April. 24
