South B nd Redevelopment Commission Regular Meeting - March 21, 1980 4. RM Mayor Parent continues... I am not asking the Redevelopment Commission to take a risk here. I am really asking for a little bit more time to continue working with this particular developer. I believe that rehabilitated space can be A -1 space in South Bend, and that we have a building here which represents a very large investment, in time, energy, and money even though it was constructed a long time ago. I feel we should work hard to preserve that kind of energy, and it would also help us in our attempts to seek UDAG grants, and help us with Century Mall because it presents investments made by the private sector. As you know, the way these UDAG grants operate, the more private monies we generate the better our chance of obtaining the grant. I want to thank the Commission for granting my request for a three month waiting period and I'm glad to see our working relationship is developing so well. I am very pleased with the cooperation I have been receiving and I just hope that I can respond in the same fashion to you. Thank you very much, Mr. Chairman. Mr. Nimtz: Thank you Mayor for your compliments and we certainly assure you that we will cooperate with you. I believe the Commissioners know that I have met with the Mayor, Mr. Jannotta, and with Mr. Butler, and other commissioners in discussion with this matter, and it will be the Chair's recommendation that we accede to the request of the Mayor. Mayor Parent: I might add that Mr. Kalman would like to have the Redevelopment Commission make a statement concerning this request as it is an assurance that you are serious about this proposal. I think what Mr. Butler has mentioned this morning about an exculsive negotiating period would give Mr. Ellison and me the ability to tell Mr. Kalman that the Redevelopment Commission has taken a very strong positive action. -7-
