South B nd Redevelopment Commission
Regular Meeting - March 21, 1980
4.
l761
.TIONS
Parent continues.....
Tor. Nimtz: Your Honor, one question I have
been asked frequently is what are the people
in California doing here in South Bend. I
am aware that you cannot reveal all the details
concerning this proposal, but do you want to
add anything about the proposal.
Mayor Parent: I think the fact that Mr. Kalman
is aligned with a local firm such as Michiana
Regional Warehouse is one of the reasons why
he is interested in South Bend. Apparently
he has worked here before and he has someone
here as his representative. The other reason
is that he is a person who is very interested in
rehabilitating a building such as the Odd Fellows
Building. For example, in San Francisco he has
rehabilitated and remodeled a warehouse for office
space, and is presently rehabilitating another one
not too far away from the first. I've distributed
a newspaper clipping in which he was commended for the
work he has done in Kansas and San Francisco in
rehabilitating older structures.
Mr. Robinson made a motion that the Redevelopment
staff and attorney negotiate with Mr. Kalman
and his agents during the next thirty (30) days
to try to reach some kind of accord, seconded by
W. Donaldson, and the motion was unanimously
carried.
Mr. Nimtz: Congratulations your Honor.
Mayor Parent: Thank you.
Letter from Redevelopment to Merchants
in Century Mall Project Area.
Mr. Ellison: This is mainly an informational
item. At the last meeting the question of
whether it was desirable to alert the property
owners and merchants that they may expect
to remain in acquired project area property
as our tenants for a longer period than previously
anticipated. The Commission instructed the
staff to notify merchants and owners indicating
MOTION MADE TO
NEGOTIATE WITH MR.
KALMAN & AGENTS FOR
THIRTY (30) DAYS
CONCERNING PROPOSAL
SUBMITTED FOR REHAB
OF ODD FELLOWS BLDG.
LETTER FROM REDEVELOP -
T4ENT DEPT. TO MERCHANTS
IN CENTURY MALL PROJECT
RE: EXTENSION OF TIME
R134AINING IN PROPERTY
