7.(h) N W BUSINESS, Continued: <br />Compensation under this contract will be $1,250.00 per month plus <br />travel expense with total compensation and reimbursement, if any, <br />not to exceed $16,000.00 for all services required. <br />Chair: I believe we all know that Dr. Wing has given a year of <br />his life free gratis on a sabbatical from Indiana University <br />this past year. He goes back to teaching classes this coming <br />January and this contract keeps him on the job now and pays him <br />for his services. <br />Don Wiggins moved for approval of this contract as stated above. <br />Gene Evans asked if Ur. Wing would now be reporting to the Rede- <br />velopment Department instead of to the city. <br />M% Brownell indicated Dr. Wing would be reporting to the Commission, <br />n t to the Redevelopment Department. <br />M-. Lindstaedt: I notice he will be allowed $1,250.00 per month <br />plus travel expense. I believe you are talking_ about per diem if <br />he goes anywhere. <br />Chair: At the rate of $15.00 per day. <br />M-. Lindstaedt: Will travel expenses have to be cleared through the <br />d partment? <br />M-. Wiggins: Any travel will have to be authorized. <br />M . Evans: Precisely what is it you expect him to do? <br />C air: To continue what he has been doing. <br />M�. Brownell: He will help us promote the downtown. <br />J hn Kagel: Mr. Chairman, I am going to speak as the Executive Director <br />of the South Bend Downtown Council and for the record, Mr. Getzinger <br />c uld not be here today, he is the head of the Downtown Council. I <br />t ink the items specifically having to do with the downtown, Items <br />7 e, f, g, h, I know this is a period for good cheer, but I think <br />tie Commission should be commended for the action which you have <br />t ken here today on these items - they are an absolute necessity for <br />tie completion of the downtown program and I think you have given some <br />g od thought to this, perhaps it will serve as a new guide post in this <br />pr,oject which we would all like to see completed and therefore you <br />should all be commended for it. <br />C air: Mr. Kagel, the Chair on behalf of the Commission thanks.you <br />f r those kind words because so often we get criticized here but as <br />I tried to explain some meetings ago when the news was all bad, we <br />k ew it was bad but we had been thinking about what might happen'if <br />tie announcement from Sears was not what we wanted and things had <br />- 15 - <br />
