7.(h) NSW BUSINESS, Continued:
been tentatively formulated and this is a fruition of those tenta-
tive plans and thinking of the Commission some weeks ago.
Mr. Evans: How did you arrive at $1,250.00? It may be green -eyed
jealousy showing up but if he is going to be doing some teaching..
Mr. Brownell: We negotiated with him - I negotiated with him first,
then took it to the President of the Commission and the Vice President.
This amount is much lower than his normal consulting -fee and it works
out probably in the neighborhood of $15.00 to $20.00 an hour for the
actual work time he will put in. It is much lower than the fee he
usually charges for his consulting work.
Mr. Evans: Do you have some feel for thenumber of hours per month he
will be expending on this?
Mr. Brownell: We have a fairly good idea how many hours will be
spent, yes.
Mr. Evans: But it is not on an hourly basis, but a monthly basis?
Mr. Brownell: It is on a monthly basis, that's right, however the
contract is on a month -to -month basis so if it isn't satisfactory
to this Commission, it can be terminated. We do have control of the
situation but I don't think we will have any problem with George.
Don Wiggins: Knowing Dr. Wing, I don't think you will either but I
think it is a reasonable question Gene, to ask how did you arrive at
$",250 - instead of $800 or $1,000. You're saying the contract was
negotiated at much lower than his normal consultation figure but for
value received I think you have to exhibit some confidence that you
are going to receive your money's worth.
Chair: I think we are very fortunate in having Dr. Wing in this
community - a member of the faculty at I.U.S.B. - he's a recognized
authority and is used in other parts of the country, his regular fee
being $100 per day and we have developed a very good rapport between
the Commission and him and the Mayor. I say that as a Republican and
Dr. Wing I believe is a former Democratic County Chairman from
Cincinnati. We have a very good understanding and a good working
r lationship with him and with the city administration and I think
i is a valuable asset to have him here.
Motion was seconded for authorization to enter into this contract,
by Mr. Cira, put to the vote and carried unanimously.
8.
