7. PROGRESS REPORTS (Cont'd <br />quarter was the economic situation, but that now the economy <br />has turned somewhat and it looks like it will continue to <br />turn. They are taking a more optimistic viewpoint relative <br />to the economy and this reflects on their expansion plans. <br />Also, that they have had several meetings primarily with the <br />Development Control Corporation, which is their sales arm, <br />and several meetings with the second major retailer, and that <br />South Bend is certainly still on their consideration list. <br />He stated they are in competition with about 200 other cities <br />and have choices of suburban vs. downtown locations, and they <br />are viewing this as a sign of progress. There will be more <br />meetings that will be taking place with this very desirable <br />major retailer in the near future. <br />Mr. Hubert Getzinger, Chairman of the Downtown South Bend <br />Council, referred to a copy of letter he received from the <br />First Bank & Trust Company, dated September 15, 1975, over <br />the signature of Mr. Benton M. Wakefield, Jr., that he <br />believed all the Commissioners were afforded a copy. This <br />letter relays the above information. <br />8.
