7. PROGRESS REPORTS (Cont'd) b. Canopies: Mrs. Janet S. Allen raised the question on the canopies CANOPIES that should have been in front of Kresge's, but that they had their own and so we didn't have one put up. That block is now really unfinished and if our plans include a canopy from Robert- son's to the corner ,where the National Bank is to build on, and didn't yet landscape? Mr. Brownell advised that we didn't propose to put a canopy there until the bank did their construction. c. Wheelchair Ramps: Mrs. Allen asked when we put in the ramps for WHEEL - the wheelchairs, why were they not put in the walkway? They are CHAIR all put to one side. Every ramp for the wheelchair is not where RAMPS you would normally cross the street; it is off to one side. Way off the white lines for the people to be crossing. Why weren't they put in the regular walkway? Mr. Bill Slabaugh, Project Engineer, Board of Works, advised that you have to go through a curb section when you ramp down, and the curb is to keep the vehicles off the sidewalk. Mrs. Allen said there would still be a corner there - -you have a ramp on one side of the corner and a ramp on the other, and you would still have that round curb at the corner, and that there is no reason for it to have been done the way it was. The curb has to be cut anyway and it is a very pecular looking setup. She said she had thought the Electric Company was doing something or would have made her protest earlier. Mr. Brownell said the ramp isplaced for the wheelchair people and it is not put in the way of the pedestrians, as they can fall. Whether right or not, it has actually happened. d. Public Address System: Mr. Soltesz raised the question on our PUBLIC invitation for bids advertising, Item 1 listed for Contract 6, ADDRESS stated for various items -- "electrical installation" -- "once SYSTEM again I raised the question and received half compromise from the Commission when it was brought up before, about the public address system and its application of the wiring. If possibly not now, but the speakers to be used for the facility of the wiring.on the Plaza to be used, is this in that bid process Remember, we spoke of the PA system ?" Mr. Bloomquist gave an update of their plans, and again stressed their most critical factor for the project is to secure that second major retailer, in order to have that enclosed shopping mall become a reality.
