NEWIBUSINESS (Cont'd) <br />Commissioner Wiggins stated that he will be glad to refer this <br />to the Board of Works with our recommendation that the bricks <br />be given to Southhold,'and further that the Board of Works give <br />further consideration for .the conservation of the bricks`; if <br />it means the removal and storage some place, so be it! Com- <br />missioners all concurred, and the statement was requested to <br />be made the motion by Mr. Wiggins, seconded by Mr. Donaldson <br />and carried. <br />It was also suggested that mounds of dirt be placed on top of <br />the bricks; however, in jest it was stated by several that the <br />dirt would be taken first, then the bricks.' <br />b. Commercial Lease: Commission approval was requested for a COMMERCIAL <br />Commercial Lease between the Department of Redevelopment and LEASE <br />the Department of Public Works, Division of Facilities, Bureau <br />of Municipal Parking of the City of South Bend; 'to use Disposi- <br />tion Parcels 4 -1, 4 -31, 4 -32, 4 -78 and 4 -79 for surface park- <br />ing, commencing May 5, 1975, on a month -to -month basis, in <br />amount of $1.0.00 per month. Project Indiana R -66. <br />Mr. Butler defined the parcels as: 4 -1, 4 -32 and 4 -31 is <br />the entire area east of Michigan Street, across the street <br />from Wymans; Disposition Parcels: 4 -78 and 4 -79 are the service <br />drives. <br />Motion for the approval of the above Commercial Lease was made <br />by Mr. Chenney, seconded by Mr. Donaldson and carried. <br />Commissioner Wiggins said he is concerned with the approval <br />of the motion of the lease. What happens to other property <br />that we have previously leased to them from the Civic Center? <br />Mr. Brownell advised that we sold the land called for the <br />Century Center and these have been used for parking. We are <br />closing off the monthly parking and moving south where the <br />old School Administration Building was. This particular lease <br />will not be for monthly parking; this will be for people who <br />want to come downtown and they will have this parking area for <br />parking. It will be metered parking for people to shop etc. <br />Mr. John Paulson, owner of the Hans- Rintzsch Luggage Shop, asked <br />"if the "hole -in -the- ground' (the amphitheaterY, will it be filled <br />and graveled off ?" <br />Presiding Officer, President: Nimtz, back chairing the meeting, <br />said, "This is the old question of parking. Parking is the City's <br />responsibilities because of the bond issue for the parking. garages; <br />they have certain legal commitments. The parking meter monEy is <br />pledged to the payment of the bonds, so any question of parking and <br />free parking is a city responsibility, and they have to watch their <br />legal commitment to the bond holders. Is this right, Counselor ?" <br />Mr. Butler responded, "That is absolutely correct! " President Nimtz <br />said that Kevin Butler-has researched this matter and that is why <br />it was done that way. Motion carried. <br />lwklm <br />
