4. COMMUNICATIONS (Cont'd)
Mr. Wiggins: Well, you're talking principally, I assume here, about a
facility that would be rent subsidized in some fashion by
HUD to provide a low -cost housing facility for the elderly.
Mr.lNimtz: This is where you get into the square- footage thing.
Mr. Brownell: I think, with your permission, Don, as I explained to the
Commission, I also have another group of people who are
interested in bidding on Section 8, Elderly Housing, and
they want two acres in this tract', and, of course, they
can't each have two acres. Either one or the other- -the
successful bidder would be the only one that would get it.
They tried to talk to me about getting an option on two
acres, and I said that we have never granted an option
to anybody on land up to now, but, I understand, from Mr.
Fleck this morning that these people have talked to each
other, and if you (speaking to Mr.. Fleck),were successful,
you would be willing to turn the two acres' over to then
to them?
Mr.lFleck: Yes, to both questions.
Mr. Wiggins: Now, basically, are you both talking about the same type
of general construction?
Mr. Fleck: Yes, sir. Let me say, since we first announced our interest
in Block 6, we have had conversations with at least two
potential developers or bidders for the high -rise elderly
project, when it comes out, and both have indicated a major
interest in this site on Block 6, as opposed to the site,
I believe, on the Northwest side of the city area.
Mr. Nimtz: Mr. Brownell, as I understand my discussion with you the
other day, we have no formal letter from the other people,
as yet?
Mr. Brownell: No. No, not as yet.
Ms. Derbeck: Are the other bidders, T. Brooks Brademas? The other
potential bidder?
Mr. Brownell: No. I have no bids from T. Brooks Brademas. I have not
talked to T. Brooks Brademas.
Ms. Derbeck: We were talking about another person Who was it?
Mr. Brownell: There was more than one person really, but 'I have just not
given you the names because they haven't made any public
statement, as yet.
Mr. `limtz: Do the Commissioners have any other questions they want to
ask?
(There being no further questions on this item, the Com-
mission moved to the next item.)
- 15 -
