7.
PROGRESS REPORTS (Cont'd)
The division manager advised Mr. Wilcox's office this
week that, without equivocation, the opening of the
Wayne and Plaza restaurant is the most financially
successful opening of any of their other operations,
and they are running thousands ahead this week from the
one before.
One of the discussions in the past with the Commission
was a sidewalk cafe. Azar's will cooperate to have
the cafe, as soon as the weather permits, and are re-
questing we furnish the chairs and tables.
2) Toby's Gift Shop: This gift shop is located at 120 TOBY'S GIFT
South Michigan Street, on the east side of Michigan. SHOP
The manager, Mr. Bob Kroll, was ecstatic about their
business and reports the first three and one -half weeks
he had more than 2,000 sales.
There is good traffic on the Plaza. Not everyone who
comes in buys, but this gives a chance to build up
clientele. People react to this type of business ex-
tremely well.
3) Dainty Maid Bakery Sho Mr. David Hub, Manager, re- DAINTY MAID
ported to Mr. Wilcox tat their traffic count is de- BAKERY SHOP
finitely up this year from.the year before.
These are three businesses doing well on the Plaza and we have
reason to believe other groups also are, and want to bring this
information before the news media and have the optimism circulated,
especially among the ones who have given criticism and been pessi-
mistic in the past.
b. River Bend Plaza Signs:
A thorough inspection has been made of the signs and
the one on the South end of the Plaza has been removed.
Mr. Wilcox reported that the sign, "Miller's Pass,"
does not meet the sign requirements, as it is wired to
a fire escape and a change will be made in that.
Continuous U: The metal for repair of this sculpture
is in and North American Signs will make the repair
as soon as weather permits. The metal was twisted by
the high winds. The neon will be handled by Colip's,
if not already done.
Allen's Alley: The sign was vandalized and taken
away.
RIVER BEND
PLAZA SIGNS,
R -66
CONTINUOUS "U"
REPAIR
ALLEN'S ALLEY
Bicentennial Park Sign: This sign was taken down by The BICENTENNIAL
Hickey Company during construction and it has been brought PARK SIGN
to their attention to have it re- installed.
- 12 -
