6. INEW BUSINESS (Cont'd
be found for the gas until it was daylight. It can be
a catastrophe when the cut -off ;valves are not shown to
try to find them. When we go into this with the money
spent, it is an obligation for someone to have definitive
drawings, and have the cut - off valves shown for all the
utilities. Mr. Kagel said this is vitally needed, and
asked if there is any possibility to have this placed on
the "As- Built" drawings at additional cost perhaps, and
to get the information from all the utility companies?
This would be a saving for the community in the long -
run for the future.
Mr.. Brownell advised that he believed we can get this in-
formation from the utility companies without any obliga-
tion. Mr. McMahon said this should be placed with the
Fire Department and the Police Department without any cost
to us, and he concurs with what is said. The obligation
to get this information and to have it in the Engineering
Department and the Police and Fire Departments lies with
the City Engineer's Office, per Mr. Brownell. Mr. Slabaugh
said as long as they have the "As- Built" plans to refer to,
they will obtain this other information.
Mr. Edward F. Soltesz, Chairman, Governmental Coordination
Committee, with the River Bend Plaza Advisory'Committee,
said that he has appeared before us on projects on the
Plaza and that this was one of the discussions we had at
the time.. This is something that has to be. So many times
in these projects, all this information is available, and it
should be presented as an overlay of any construction going
on. It is just good business sense. Those things that are
deleted now from Michigan Street in the River Bend Plaza area
should be obtained from the utility companies and given to
the Engineering, Fire and Police Departments. These things
have to be considered, and a lot of stress has to be placed
on it. He said there is no way in the world that we can do
a job on a contract without these related things, and if
they are available from the utility companies, these things
should be in the Engineering Department and placed on file.
Mr. Wiggins made the motion that the expenditure be approved
for the "As- Built" drawings. Motion was seconded by Mr.
Donaldson and carried.
7. PROGRESS REPORTS
Leaking Vaults, R -66: Mr. Bill E. Slabaugh, with the City LEAKING VAULTS,
Engineer's Office, advised five or six areas are leaking R -66
under the sidewalk at Robertson's - -the same situation we
had at Baer's prior. Mr. Slabaugh said he will be meeting
with a representative from the Sika Chemical' Corporation
