5. TOLD BUSINESS (Cont'd
Even with change orders, they do not feel it would be
fair to either one of us to arrive at a firm bid within
reason.
Commissioner Wiggins raised the question that several
other people had bid and backed off on these and now
Roseland proposes to do the work with a firm bid, and
if they don't what recourse do we have, and whether
we require a performance bond? Mr. L. Kent Wilcox,
Acting Executive Director, advised this bid is for
$13,937.00, whereas Circle Lumber's was $11,499.00.
No performance bond is required as we are using local
funds. This contractor is agreeing to do the work
we specified and we requested a punch list.
Commissioner Chenney advised that Roseland Construction
Company, Inc. is a good and reliable construction firm
and no one can tell at this point what will happen in
the initial work. This is on muck land and a portion
of the foundations are sinking. Raising the foundations
may create other problems which we may have with the
householders.
On motion by Mr. Chenney, seconded by Mr. Wiggins and
unanimously carried, the motion authorizing the award
of the contract to Circle Lumber, Inc., in Commission
meeting of August 16, 1974, is rescinded, and the rehabi-
litation work is awarded to Roseland Construction Company,
Inc., in bid amount of $13,937.00, as noted above, with
authorization to enter into a contract with Roseland
Construction Company, subject to Legal Counsel approval.
Community Development Task Force: Relative to question COMMUNITY DEVELOP -
raised by Commissioner Wiggins on the two Commissioners MENT TASK FORCE
named, in Commission meeting of September 6, to meet
as a Committee with Mayor Miller and Mr. William Hojnacki,
Mr. L. Kent Wilcox advised that the Mayor has decided not
to appoint a Task Force in the re- organization of the
Department of _Community Development and charged Mr. Hojnacki
as the Director of Community Development and Mr. L. Kent
Wilcox as the Deputy Director; and Mr. L. Kent Wilcox as
the Acting Executive Director for the Department of Redevelop -
ment.
Termination Dates for Redevelopment Staff: Mr. L. Kent REDEVELOPMENT
Wilcox said he also wanted to advise the Commissioners STAFF TERMINATION
at this time, based on Mr. Lennon's memorandum of May 29,
1974, sent to all Redevelopment staff, that per that
memorandum the positions will be terminated, as stated,
at the end of the calendar year, with the exception of
seven (7). Mr. Wilcox said he will discuss this further
with the Commissioners at the next meeting.
- 6 -
